Kurbelmast Magirus KM 10/7 - spareparts an advice needed

    hello community

Few month ago i bought a Magirus (Klöckner Humboldt Deutz) KM 10/7 Kurbelmast.
It´s a 10 meter mast with 7 segments that is described in an old manual D922 /1.

Unfortunately there was a problem while pulling down the mast.
I took a closer look and i realized that the pulldown wire cracked almost completely.
Just 1,4m from the complete lenght of 9,65m were left.

I took the mast apart and saw that the spring and the fastening cap were missing.

Do anybody know where i can get the right spring and the fastening cap?
Unfortunately there is only the wire length described in the old manual, but not the spring (length, strenght in N)

    Pls excuse my poor english.

    Thank you
    Eugene

I think you will have to re-engineer and manufacture the missing parts yourself as spare parts will be impossible to find. Even original specifications will be hard to come by, unless Magirus holds this data on file (doubtful, but it may be worth contacting them).

The spring only needs to deal with with the length variations of the pull in and pull out cables as one spools out while the other spools in. The spring needs to be strong enough to overcome the friction of the mast sections sliding into each other (helped by gravity), if the mast is in good condition (well greased, not corroded and straight) this friction should not be very high. If you measure the friction with a simple weight gauge with the mast horizontal it would give you the approximate strength needed for the spring (with the mast upright, gravity will only make the retraction easier).

      @Funksammler

      Thank you for the assessment.

Unfortunately an older men, an employee at Iveco, with experience years over years regarding KDH an Magirus stuff is retired last october and the new one has absolutely no glue about this things

Over that i´d like to make contact with F.Knieriemen wich is also a member here who had restored a 9m Magirus Mast.
Maybe he has the needed information.
But, i can´t send a private message or a mail to him oder wehrmacht-award, no glue why....

Do you stay in contact with him.

I´m afraid i have to go in trial and error after ordering different springs.

      best regards
      Eugene
