    Horchgerät

    Hello all.
I have created a new internet page abote Horchgerät
I get questions from a broadcaster about Horchgerät.
    How were these used?
How was the communication in these units?
Is there anything I can write on the page?
Can you see on the page and get me some information?

    Hello LA6NCA,

    for a start,
here is a german wiki page on the principles of sound locatiing and the Ring-Richtungs-Hörer:
    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richtungsh%C3%B6rer

and here is an english wiki page on the general principles of Acoustic locating or sound locating and range finding:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_location

BTW, that is a nice and comprehensive set of photos on the this topic.

    Regards

Two of these acoustic direction finders turned up in a Normany scrapyard recently, beautifully constructed out of aluminium and covered in felt on the outside. Unfortunately they were just the acoustic parts, the mountings etc. were missing.

It goes to show that these rather outdated pieces of equipment continued in use throughout the war.

      regards,

            LA6NCA,

The official name for those were Ringtrichter-Richtungshörer (RRH). We had them too here during the WW2, they moved them around in the coastal area with trailers to avoid detection. Look here for those trailers.

            Here's also some interesting information.
