Need opinions for a radio setup!

My reenacting unit has recently come up with radios for our next event, which is set to be very late 1945. We have a camp setup, and I'm interested in getting it as realistic as possible. What were the radio communications like at this point in the war? How were the radios frequently set up? Is there anything I can do to the setup that would point specifically to late war? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What sort of unit are your portraying? They would not have used radio's in a camp setting anyway, away from the front radio silence was maintained for security reasons, communications would have been done through a field telephone network.

We're portraying an SS unit fighting on the western front. (We portray 5th Wiking normally, however due to the event, we're required to cover up our cuff titles). At any rate, so it would be chiefly field telephones? I have several original FF33s and one of our guys has a switchboard and the accompanying equipment. Would we have any transmitters or receivers? We have the telephone wire backpack and reels. It would be of no problem to connect the phones. Thanks ahead!

For the period reference, look here.

I remember there were several period images showing communication equipment.

This thread shows some typical late war radio setups (it includes some SS setups although they are identical to those used by the army): http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...light=normandy

Here is a nice static setup with a Torn.Fu.d2: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...36&postcount=1

          Artillery radio setup:

          <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/887e89e9-1d37-4380-8093-0064bc1c3336_zpsbpmctr9a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/887e89e9-1d37-4380-8093-0064bc1c3336_zpsbpmctr9a.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 887e89e9-1d37-4380-8093-0064bc1c3336_zpsbpmctr9a.jpg"/></a>

          <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC00315_zpsgtwq2ica.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC00315_zpsgtwq2ica.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC00315_zpsgtwq2ica.jpg"/></a>

          Company HQ radio setup:

          <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC03882_zps2lnza150.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC03882_zps2lnza150.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC03882_zps2lnza150.jpg"/></a>

          <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC03878_zpsfh5yazpw.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC03878_zpsfh5yazpw.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC03878_zpsfh5yazpw.jpg"/></a>

obviously these would be used in the front line rather than in camp settings. Most that they would do with radios in camps was to clean and maintain them for the next operation. Strict radio silence was enforced when not actively engaged with the enemy!

          regards,

That is of course a Torn.Fu.g, typically used by Panzergrenadiere...

Thank you a ton! (When I say camp, I meant front line emplacements). Usually referred to as a camp because it is where we stay for the duration of the event, but, once again, Thanks! I'm going to be using this information, and after the event, I'll post some photos of how it goes!
