    Fu 10 SE 30 TE

    Evening all

I'm desperately in need of some expert help regarding a project me and a few chums are working on. We're currently busy putting the finishing touches to our new project vehicle an Sd.Kfz.223 to sit along side our 222. We've decided to fit out the interior with a full (early war) fu.10 radio set and already have the Torn.E.b element sorted out including part of the interior racking. However the sender is proving impossible to source, we have the tech and parts to make a replica but we can't even find any decent modern collection pictures or dimensions for that matter. I understand we require details for the 30 w.s pictured below to help illistrate what we are looking for information wise. I know these vehicles were later upgraded with an 80 watt sender but as we are early war so only what to go with the 30 watt.
We think the dimensions might be the same as the Torn.E.b but can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks in advance Simon.

Early war or pre-war? The old type 30 W.S. was replaced with the 30 W.S.a from 1938, so I suspect that when the war broke out, the old 30 W.S. (Telefunken spez. 657 A) was mainly relegated to training and second line units.

In this photograph you get an idea of the size of the old 30 W.S. compared to the Torn.E.b: http://forum.axishistory.com/downloa...1657&mode=view

As said, during the war the 30 W.S.a was used as part of the Fu10 set. You can find a good overview of the 30 W.S.a here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...light=30+W.S.a

Ahhh!!! I knew this was the right place to come for expert advice..... I've seen loads on the 30 W.S.a but the more I read the more what I'd describe as confusing and conflicting information about its use came to light so I began to dismiss it as a wild goose chase and not what we were looking for but now that you mention 1938 as the replacement date and we are looking at a time frame of 1939-42 then yes of course this later model is what we should be fitting.
Thank you Funksammler, knew you'd be the man to seek out

Incidentally to confirm what we think, even with using the upgraded 30 W.S.a sender the set up inside the SdKfz.223 would still be referred to as the fu.10?

The 30 W.S.a + Torn.E.b combination was re-numbered as Fu 20, sometimes also as Fu 22. I am not clear about the difference between the Fu 20 and the Fu22. The only way to be sure how the Sd.Kfz.223 was equipped is to find a copy of the relevant Dienstvorschrift (D 867).

            i read D867 copies of original , from 28.7.36
but printed in 1941 in the book it's the old 30 w like on first picture of this thread and old torn eb spez445
            not a word about fu 10 ,20 ,22 or other .
same for D946 merkblatt about kfz 223 14.3.36

Thanks for the input Pierre and thanks again Funksammler for you're help too. I think we will certainly go ahead with the 30 W.S.a but not entirely sure about the correct designation for this.
FuG.12 pops up could this be the correct designation for this upgraded set?

The Fu 12 was the combination of 30W.S.a and Mw.E.c, so same transmitter, different receiver. Later recon vehicles certainly used this combination, again not clear exactly when they uses the fu12 and when the fu20.....
