Fusprech.f Antenna Question

Hi folks, quick question for you all, I'm looking to make an antenna for my fusprech.f vehicle radio but I'm unsure of the correct dimensions? Can anyone tell me what both the length and diameter of the rod should be?
I've read various text that mention anything from 1.25m to 1.75m in length but absolutely nothing referring to what the diameter should be?

The Fuspr.f used a 2 meter long rod antenna. Usually fitted to the 24 mm Antennefuss 1, late in the war (end 1944) a thinner antenna came into use, fitting to the 15 mm Antennefuss 2.

Okay so 24mm is the diameter of the rod or is that just referring to the coupling on the rubber base mount?

The 24 mm is the diameter of the "pin" on the antenna base on which the rod has to fit. Obviously the outer diameter of the rod at the base will be larger than that. The antenna tapers towards the top. Different models existed, early ones were rolled/soldered with a relatively large diameter, later steel ones seem to be extruded and pulled. I have even seen what appears to be a relatively thin stainless steel tube welded to a mild steel bottom clamp.

With a bit of luck you might still be able to find an orignal late war 15 mm rod as some NOS was found about 10-15 years ago. I must admit that it has been a while since I have seen any of these on the market....

Thank you so much Funksammler you've been extremely helpful today I kneel before your greatness. I'm surprised by the size of the base mounting pin being 24mm making the rod some 25-26mm approx in diameter, that's pretty big by today's standard.

Probably pushing my luck here but with the rod tapering towards the top any idea of the diameter at the top end?

From bottom to top:
- early war "thick" 1.6 meter 24 mm antenna
- mid/late war "thin" 1.6 meter 24 mm antenna
- mid/late war "thin" 2 meter 24 mm antenna (unfortunately broken)
- late war "thin" 15 mm antenna

Note that the early type tapers gradually from about 28 to 13 mm. The late war antennas all step down in diameter above the base. Also note that all the antennas have a thick collar around the base which contains a tightening bolt (in some -but not all- cases with butterfly nut).

The "thick" antenna ends with a diameter of about 13 mm, the "thin" antennas all end in about 3 mm diameter.

OMG I'm in antenna heaven

You've been a massive help Funksammler, thank you so much for taking to time to answer my questions regarding these often over looked Fuspr.f radio accessories, think you've managed to cover just about everything I could ever want to know now. Interesting change in the style of rod over the years, wonder if the thinner whip style would achieve a higher performance over the thick pole of the early war type?

Well this thread has been extremely enlightening and a massive help so I'm glad I came to the right place and asked here. I really hope this can be of some help to other collectors too as it has been to me, best regards Simon.
