It is a breathing hole for the battery. The battery sits in an enclosed section segregated from the rest of the box to avoid acid vapours causing damage. The lid has a rubber seal to enclose the battery section. An air passage ensures that any vapours from the battery can escape directly to the outside. The air passage is designed not to let rain water into the box. You find similar air passages on all battery boxes (Torn.E.b, Torn.Fu.d2 etc.)
