    Torpedo electronics

I'm working on preserving a Pi-2 torpedo pistol that was brought up after resting for 69 years at the bottom of the sea. Ordinarily I would post this in the large ordnance section, but this is the magnetic type detonator with sensing electronics:

The electronics are sealed in a watertight brass housing, unfortunately it didn't stay watertight. Some of the parts in the tip of the detonator are made from aluminium, which corroded and completely disappeared. This let water into the electronics section, the electronics sit in an aluminium frame and this frame has turned into a gray gel.

I'm still working on getting the electronics out of the housing, but I did get one of the three vacuum tubes out. Amazingly it's intact, it survived the pressure at 55 meters depth. I need your help to identify it, all I know is that it's made by Telefunken and has a handwritten label that says 3131.

    A look inside the housing:

It looks like a pentode like the RL2,4P3, but there seems to be a red marking on the back that doesn't make sense. There doesn't seem to be a known red coded type in this shape, the P3 has a brown triangle, the P45 has a pink triangle, the P701 has a purple triangle: http://www.hts-homepage.de/Wehrmacht/Farbcode.html

Best to remove the paper, the type number may be underneath, or at least the colour code will become clearer....

    regards,

Penthode, of course. There is visible indirect heated cathode in the tube, it seems to be rather standard RV12P2000. The overal look (anode, system holders etc.) is also typical Telefunken P2000.

        Hello

        extract from Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...oes_of_Germany

        Warheads and pistols

Warheads was designated with the letter "K" (K = short for Kopf, meaning "head") and a small Arabic letter, with an additional number denoting variants of the head (variations was typical the change of material from bronze to steel or adding/removing spants during the course of the war). Examples: Ka, Ka1, Kb, Kb1 etc.

Pistols used the "Pi" designations to begin with (Pi = short for pistole). The early models was named Pi G7a or Pi G7H according to function and/or torpedo type, but this was later replaced by a simple system of numbers, like "Pi 1", "Pi 2" etc.

To indicate variants within the main design, a small Latin letter was added after the number, like "Pi 1a", "Pi 1b" etc.

At some point, "Pi" was dropped for pistols with combination of mechanical (direct hit) and magnetic (distance-sensor) mechanisms, to the "TZ" designation (TZ = Torpedo-Zündeinrichtung). For example, the mechanical mechanism from the "Pi 1" pistol combined with the magnetic mechanism from "Pi 2" became the "TZ 2".

Soak the paper and then remove it carefully.

              Hello Soldat a

Many thank for this schematic diagram and paper about the power of this
The battery for propulsion motor is the same
Please have you some informations about other components ? (giro motor dc or ac ?)

              many tank
              Regards Rv12p2000

@Asbjørn: So you managed to salvage some parts then? Nice. I hope you will let me know how the work progresses.

@soldat_a: Have you managed to find some more documentation on the torpedopistols since our last communication? (the photos you posted here are no longer available).
