      Kasten Panzer Nr Z23

I finally got around to restoring my Kasten Pz.Nr. Z23. The Z23 is the main fusebox for the power supplies, so the E.U.a's and U10 Umformers are supplied from this box. The Z23 boxes were fixed inside the tank, so most got scrapped/destroyed with the tanks and mine must have sat in a rusting tank for a long time. Here is one still in place in a Pz IV:

      <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/P1040502_zpssgkmeu71.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/P1040502_zpssgkmeu71.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo P1040502_zpssgkmeu71.jpg"/></a>

Note the two E.U.a receiver Umformer racks in the background, you can see an interconnection cable so they are fed as one group from the Kasten.Pz.nr z23. The supply to the Umformers is connected to the far side of the box, the cable running to the U10 transmitter Umformer frame is also visible, this is fitted a bit higher on the sidewall out of view in this photograph. The power supply comes in on the near side of the box, the second cable runs to the "Scheifringübertrager" to feed the electrical equipment in the turret of the tank.

      <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC08770_zpsw5vw0arw.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC08770_zpsw5vw0arw.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC08770_zpsw5vw0arw.jpg"/></a>

It had to be completely dismantled as all the electrical binding posts and cable glands were corroded in place, fortunately I managed to free up the larger binding posts but all those on the fuse boards needed to be drilled out. I decided to replace the fuse boards untill I can find the correct binding posts to replace the corroded original ones because they are too far gone. The new fuse boards also allows me to use standard sized fuses as the original short fuses are no longer available. Here are the original fuse boards:

      <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC08775_zpsxk99msaw.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC08775_zpsxk99msaw.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC08775_zpsxk99msaw.jpg"/></a>

So now the interior is all functional, ready to be fitted to my Umformers:

      <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC08774_zpswlchbujq.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC08774_zpswlchbujq.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC08774_zpswlchbujq.jpg"/></a>

      <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC08773_zpsdc3zqcmz.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC08773_zpsdc3zqcmz.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC08773_zpsdc3zqcmz.jpg"/></a>

      <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC08772_zpsmmaoxwmp.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC08772_zpsmmaoxwmp.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC08772_zpsmmaoxwmp.jpg"/></a>

The only thing I am less happy about is the temporary tagplate, I will have to have a better one made up but for now it will do:

      <a href="http://s672.photobucket.com/user/Funksammler/media/DSC08769_zpsb7hg8s6g.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv86/Funksammler/DSC08769_zpsb7hg8s6g.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSC08769_zpsb7hg8s6g.jpg"/></a>

Overall I am quite happy with the result of the restoration, in any case it is fully functional again and should last for at least another 75 years!

Does anybody have an original example of the paper tag that was held in the lid of the box?

      regards,

      Funksammler
