    Star antenna

Would someone have a picture of the storage tube or how was it stored when not in use in any of the 251 command halftracks..

I have looked through a lot photographs and "Beladeplane", but there doesn't seem to be a storage containter for the Sternantenne D. It seems like the antenna is to be placed on the atenna mount permanently. This is borne out by the fact that the antenna is shown on the majority of photographs of late war command halftracks (with the majority of photographs taken on the march, at rest, i.e. in non comabat situations). Tactically, the receivers were kept on standby when not in combat, so this required the antenna to be connected at all times.

I have seen one photograph where the Sternantenna D is removed and simply stuck behind the radio rack. Possibly to protect it from low branches during movement or to make the command vehicle more difficult to spot by enemy observers.

I have seen one "Beladeplan" of a Sd.Kfz 250 of an artillery ranging troop which had an antenna stored on the right lower wall (partly behind the radio rack), but this was probably a rod antenna to be set up outside the vehicle for a sound ranging transmitter.

Here are a few pics of the antenna dismounted on a 251:

On the photograph with the sleeping Funker, the antenna seems to be simply placed on top of the radio rack.

On the last photo the antenna is misteriously floating in the air, perhaps it was just being held by another crew member when the picture was taken.
