    Unknown Radio Item

Hey everyone, I picked up a Torn e.b and it came with a box that is unfamiliar to me.

The box says "messbrück für freileitungen" "LN 19020" on the removable panel

Inside the back is a power cord, a cord which appears to attach to the A and G terminals on the Torn e.b and 2 smaller cables.

On the other side is a small door which when opened reveals what appears to be a speaker, the speaker has a Wa Stamp on it and i think the other ends of the 2 small wired in the back of the unit.

    What have I got here?

    Back?

The box once contained a measuring device for measuring device for measuring telephone lines. Somebody has dismantled this and fixed cabling from an early Torn.E.b battery box and a loudspeaker (probably from a Volksempfaenger). So even though it is made up from period components, it is not an original piece of equipment.

Interesting, that's why is seems so strange. Do you think this is a post-war mock up, or something thrown together in the field?

Definately a post war job. The troops would have the correct battery boxes or vehicle power supplies available, so no need to rig up their own versions. Also improvised modifications of this kind were generally not done on radio equipment. After the war, the radios were seen as useful and valuable, battery boxes were generally thrown away or emptied to be used as storage boxes. Once collectors got interested, probably less that one battery box survived for every 10 radios. So somebody could not find an original box and rigged something up using bits he had available....

        regards,
