FuG16 prices

Folks,

a FuG16Z radio has just appeared for sale on Ebay - no 170654411682 on www.ebay.co.uk

As its just the sort of equipment I would like to evaluate, I am toying with making an offer on it, but I would like people's opinions first on whether the current price of $950 (roughly equivalent to 660 euros) is a reasonable one?

Also are there any pitfalls with these radios that I should be looking out for?

The one advertised is rather incomplete, just the receiver and modulator unit, no case. In this condiition it is rather overprised. Better FuG16's come up for sale from time to time in a similar price bracket.

If you are serious about collection the FuG16 you need to consider that the tranceiver is only one part in a whole installation, you need power supply, mounting frames, remote controls, junction boxes, antenna tuner; for a Z or ZY you need some additional bits for the direction finder.

thanks for that very helpful reply. I will sit tight for now - particularly as the item has to be shipped from the USA at considerable extra cost. One is bound to turn up nearer home!

I am not a collector as such, so I won't be interested in getting a complete system together. I am interested in establishing the performance of the equipent, as I outlined in other posts, and at the time VHF equipment was very much "state of the art". Advances were rapid on the allied side, but way behind the germans from the little I know so far.

There is a 95% complete FuG16ZY on eBay.com right now...price appears to be better than the one on UK.
