I agree, but thats why, they can answer all those "stupid" questions asked by us, without all those strange gizmo's. Interesting power vibrator, how about some pictures?

That's right, those three folks are the kings. But there are many more who have very large secret collections that we can only dream about. I know several people in the US. And you are right also about them silently watching this forum.

And some remain quiet to avoid robbers. I know a few collectors who have been "visited" after showing their collections to fellow "enthusiasts".

We don't have quite such a problem with thieves in the UK, mainly because few have German kit, which is rare and very valuable. Comparative stuff in the UK are the spysets (B2 etc), which like the German kit tends to be nice and compact, and easily walked off with.....but not many people have spysets.

Of course, insurance helps, but can't replace items that excessively rare.

I suggest its up to the honest ones (hopefully everyone on this forum!) to take steps to protect themselves and their collections, and help one another. I put forward the following ideas to help stop the robbers from succeeding (as an alternative to excessive secrecy):

1. Make sure your physical security is excellent. Good locks, solid doors and windows, etc. Keep rare items in your house (where you live) not in a shed or garage, where no-one lives.

2. Photograph and note serial numbers of all your rare items.

3. List the information above with your insurance company.

4. Post the serial numbers to a public place - like Yuri's thread on this forum.

5. If you are unlucky enough to suffer a theft, then swallow your pride, and publicise the fact, along with pictures and serial numbers, as widely as possible, to places like this forum. The more people that know about it, the more likely the items are to be spotted and returned to you, and the thief caught.

6. If you do catch a thief, then make sure you use all the legal means available to ensure the person is prosecuted. This is important to deter anyone else who wants to try the same tricks.

7. Make sure convicted thieves are publicly named, so that we all know who to watch out for.


Some of these steps are obvious, but the later ones are often neglected. Steps 6 and 7 are vital to provide a strong deterrent to those who want to steal and swindle, and to help everyone else who also owns rare items.


We suffer from our own version of dishonesty in the UK. In our most notorious recent case, an Enigma machine was stolen from Bletchley Park. Dennis Yates (Ebay Id = g.marconi), a well-known radio dealer in the UK, was convicted of handling stolen goods (no-one is sure who actually stole it), and ended up with a 2 year prison sentence. I recommend avoiding Dennis Yates, but sadly he is still in business, because some will continue to buy from convicted thieves.

The trouble is, Dennis Yates is merely the tip of an unpleasantly large iceberg. Thieving on a smaller scale is well known, along with failing to honestly describe items offered for sale. I hardly need mention Ebay scams......!

Tony Helm is another example of someone, who while not convicted in any UK court (as far as I know), is known to be involved in swinding. In one case, he managed to swindle a radio worth some 1500 euros (or more) out of the UK Royal Signals Museum, paying just 250 euros, and he did this while the radio in question was subject of an auction that I was running, and it already had a bid on it of about 1000 euros. He is active in Europe, and I would strongly recommend everyone avoids him completely.

NOTE: I only name Tony Helm publicly on here, because I have personally amassed a pile of written evidence about his activities, and thus am prepared to stand by what I say, and I don't want anyone else to suffer at his hands. And I am quite prepared to share this evidence with anyone who needs it - just email me privately. DON'T go naming anyone else you merely suspect of bad behaviour - unless you have solid evidence that puts such statements beyond doubt - or you may be subject to action for libel! (as well as causing rows, bad feeling, etc, which none of us need!)

Can you take one that does not show the flash?
Need to know which pin were input and output.
Is input power 12Volt?
Is output power 2Volt and 100Volt?

Output is 100V 14/24mA and 2V 1.5/2 A
