Antenna for home use,

Hello all,

What kind of antenna's do you use for home usage?
I am looking for a good antenna to be uses with my radio sets, especially the KW E.a and 10watt sender in combination with a UKW E.e.

I live in a appartment and do not have any neighbours to the right of me or above me.
The main problem is that due to regulations i am not able to put a fixed antenna to my appartment but need something invisible or temporary that can be removed when i am not using the sets.

I allready work with a wire antenne which is hanging on the top of my hobby room, but i think this is not the best option.

Maybe someone has a better sugestion.

Antennas can be a bit of a black art, but with your Kw.E.a you should get good results with a bit of wire. At the moment I use a a very short antenna of about 1m length with my Kw.E.a and this allows me to pick up quite a bit, unfortunately also the noise from the nearby farmer's electric fence!

In general the rule for wire antennas is that the longer and the higher the antenna, the more signal you pick up. You want to try and keep you antenna away from sources of interference like computers, dimmers etc., creating the best reception antenna is a bit of a balancing act.

For my receivers I am planning to set up an active broadband antenna with a coaxial cable ring line to distribute the signal to the various receivers. The actual antenna part is quite small so it can more easily be placed away from sources of interference and it produces enough signal to feed a multitude of receivers, but it is a more high-tech and expensive solution.

The UkW.E.e/10 W.S.c was originally used with a 2 meter long rod antenna, so I will use the same in my setup. This is a bit short for the wavelength, antenna of about 2.5 meter would be more effective (1/4 wavelength antenna). Near where I live there is not an awful lot to hear on this band so I guess it is not that critical. For demonstrating transmitting I use a dummy load (e.g. a 12V lamp) rather than an actual antenna.

I'd build a 5/8 J pole matched to your wavelenght with a coax line and patch it in to the system. Keep in mind the wavelengths that these systems operate at aren't necessarily open for use at this time.

Put it otside . The length is not critical. You can use a thin wire which can easily be moved/removed. IOf you live high up, use a fishing-rod to get it away from the building and let it hang down.

For the panzer-radios use some 2 m long wire/whip, but dont expect to hear too much at this time of the solar cycle. During summers you should hear Europeans,
