    Olympia typewriter

    Need some help?I have a chance to buy from a vets family a Olympia typewriter and case.It has the SS key.It does type,cycle,carrigage is free.ribbon is shot.They want $400 for it.Is this a good deal?

    It amazes me that you can buy a WWII-era or earlier typewriter for less than $50 (sometimes less than $10 ), but just because one has a SS key it's suddenly worth $400-$500.

      Seems to be the going price (if it is truly in good shape).

        The price seems about right. A few years ago, they used to go for close to a grand, but the decline in the economy has brought them into the reach of us mere mortals. I've seen a few for a little bit cheaper, but when you factor into it shipping from Germany (which isn't cheap on something like a typewriter), that seems like an acceptable price.
