Catches on a D2 front cover question.

I need your help. I am trying to repro a cover for a D2. I need to know how the catches for the latches attach to the cover. I have another case where the metal strips are spot welded to the outside of the lip. In the photo below, I can't decide if they are spotwelded inside the lip or on the outside. I seem to recall seeing one case where the strip is welded to the edge of the lip.

Can anyone tell me what the correct way is? Or better yet, post a detail photo of the catch itself.

    TIA

Are these spot welded or riveted on? I am making a repro case and using countersunk solid rivets, which I believe were used on the originals, so I thought it would be the same for these?

It looks like they are riveted and then a small weld along the top edge is added.
