    Kw.E.a receiver

    Hi

I just bourght a Kw.E.a receiver, from germany, I haven't picked it up yet. I am told it is in working condition, the only flaw is that the metal plate with model number, serialnumber and year of manufacture is missing. The tip of the power switch has also broken off. I have paid 421 euro for it, is that a fair price?
I am interested in buying a working powerswitch, does anybody have one for sale?
I am planning to make the missing metal plate, could some of you, who have a Kw.E.a receiver take a close up picture of the serialnumber plate? I need some different ones, so hopefully I can get all the correct fonts for the numbers I need. Please take the time to measure the width and heights too. I hope to find the correct serial inside unit, or maybe at the case?
    Thank you.

I watched that auction. The receiver is an early model which is a big plus in my book. The price is VERY low for one in this condition. The cosmetic issues can be fixed if done very carefully. The power toggle switch needs to be replaced and the name plate needs to be re-created and screwed into the face-plate. The pieces of information on the name plate are: Name of device (Kw.E.a), serial number, year of manufacture. The serial number can usually be found on several internal components, and the tunning coils are usually stamped with their own manufacture date - which approximates the year of the receiver manufacture. So try there. I would not mess with the front paint, since it's original and good enough.

      Hi Yuri

Thank you for your answers. Do you have a closeup picture of the name plate? I would really appreciate if I could get some closeup pictures, of different name plates, so maybe I could get all numbers from 0-9, for remake of serialnumber in the correct font.

On my web site, I have a Lw.E.a of the same type from 1939. Take a look at that one.

          Year?

          Hi Yuri

I went to Germany this sunday and brought back the Kw.E.a receiver, I am very happy with it.
Is this the tunning coils that you mention?
I opened one of the shieldings, which had already been opened before, I was glad to see that only a
few ones had ever been opened.

Do you think the coil is from 1938?

Here is a picture of the Te30 tube. It is hard to see, but it is marked 51. 39. on the glass of the tube.

Is that from 1939? Is the receiver then maybe from 1939?

Here is a picture of the front.

Hopefully I'll take some better pictures, later.
          Thank you.

Would it be possible to have a photo of the upper left part of the set please? My set is missing this item and as I can't find an original to replace it, I was going to make a cosmetic replacement so at least the set looks complete.

            Kind regards

            Dave

              Tube test buttons

              Hi Dave

I tried to take the picture, but it's too dark now, tried with flash but it's no good, I'll have to wait and take the picture in the daylight.
If you have an early receiver like mine, could you the please take a closeup picture of the type shield with the serial and year, mine is missing and I have to make a new one? Could you also take a closeup of the screw to the FEIN tuning knob? Mine isen't the correct one, is the screw grey/green or black painted?
              I'll post pictures on friday.

The date should be on the outside of the tuning coil box. The numbers on the inside are component connector numbers.

                  Year of manufacture?

                  Hi Yuri

Could you please, try to describe where to find it? Is it on the rotating drum with the 5 different bands? I have looked all over, do I have to take something apart to see it?

On my site there are pictures on this page with the dates stamped on the coil turret boxes:

                    http://www.desyatnik.com/radios/kwea.php

Also take a look at the vacuum tubes. If they are approximately dated the same time, that could be your year.

                      Hi Yuri

Thank you for your reply, now everything is clear, I have no such dates at my
                      coil turret box.
The good news is, that I have got contact to a guy in germany, who can make a new type shield, he can tell me correct year, from the serialnumber.
I am still looking for the AUS/EIN switch!!!

                        Hi HCS,

I'm missing the type plate for mine as well (as well as most of the other labels - I've had to make up temporary ones!).

The screw on mine is black with red primer underneath, I'll get it out the garage this weekend and take some photos for you.

                          Tube tester

                          Hi Dave

The black screw, is it the same size and style, as the one in the center for the Grob(band I, band II...) knob?
Here is the pictures I promised, I hope they can help you out, let me know if I can help with measurements or more pictures. Be aware that there are two different designs, according to the date of manufacture, I have posted a picture of Yuri's tube tester (hope you don't mind, Yuri )

The screw on mine is identical to the one on the Grob knob - it fits the thread perfectly.

Thank you for the picture - it's perfect.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a duplicate set of labels made up for the radios at all? I'm missing quite a few on my KwEa.

I have contact to a guy in germany, that will make the correct new repro type plate for me, should I ask him if he could make other plates as well?
