Am i right in thinking that i have a late war example with 2nd pattern eagle and ersatz leather sweatband.?
I have seen a few Luftwaffe caps with oval chin strap buckles, is there any significance in the different types or was it just down to what the maker had in stock....?

In my humble opinion no real significance in the different types of chinstrap buckles.

This hat doens't raise and problems. Oval chinstrap buckles were the norm for Luftwaffe ORs' visor hats but period pics and surviving examples show specific chinstraps being replaced by Army pattern ones with rectangular buckles.

I stopped collecting quite a few years ago and sold nearly all my stuff (don't ever do that, huge mistake) so i am not quite so sure about things as i was.....
Slowly buying some more bits now though.....
