It appears to be a pre-war hat. I'm not an expert on local tramways but undoubtedly Stefan Martin was a confirmed maker of Frankfurt a. Main, Gutleutstr. 145:

In my humble opinion a nice visor for niche collectors.

It looks indeed as a cap for tramways. The positioned insignia is known as
Deutsche Arbeitsfront-Mützenabzeichen für Strassenbahnen, Klein- und Privatbahnen
(DAF cap symbol for Tramway and Private Railroad-concerns).
A large article was written by me for the “Military Advisor”-magazine (vol. 15,
number 1: winter 2003/2004) with over eight pages as “The Cap Badge with combined DAF Emblem”.
Specific conerns were granted/authorized to use this badge.
It is practically sure the insignia as shown here is a fake. It has features that should not be there!
