    Heer M42 Conversion M43

    Hello,
I can usually be found over at the Luftwaffe Forum, but have recently come into possession of this cap and would be really grateful for opinions on it.

After doing a bit of research and speaking to a respected member of the forum when it comes to cloth headgear, I think it is a very well worn and lived in M42 cap that has been converted to a M43 with replaced insignia. I do not know if this is original pre 1945 insignia or not.

Anyway, thoughts and comments would be gratefully received and let me know if you require any further areas or angles of the cap.
    Thanks and regards,
    Andy

Hi Andy I would say 100% ok have seen three in my collecting years. I must get a picture of my friends black panzer m36 converted to m43, war time done you would hardly notice unless it was pointed out to you. regards Paul.

Your friend is right, an original cap (m-42 converted to M-43). The cap may have been worn postwar, judging from the wear, with insignia restored more recently.

          Dear both,
Thanks for your replies and considerations.

Do you think the insignia, although post-war added, is itself genuine?
          Much obliged,
          Andy

                  Nice cap!
I've had several similar ones: M42 converted to M43 by the adding a visor.
The visor made the cap more suitable - blocking the sun, rain, etc.
and the M42 configuration was unpopular with the troops.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply and give their thoughts. Glad I took the punt on this cap when I was touch and go as to whether I was going to buy it.

As they say, 'If only it could talk'!
                    Regards,
                    Andy
