    Luftwaffe Summer Visor Cap

    Hello,

I would like to hear some thoughts about a summer Luftwaffe EM/NCO Visor cap I have bought. My concern is that it seems to glow under UV light, I have done a search on the forum but was unable to find a thread about summer visors concerning this.

I can not post photos on the forum. Could anyone help me with that?

    Regards Kristoffer

Pics are helpful to state ...
A white detachable cover for a summer cap may glow as they were often washed post 1950 , when chlore chemicals were used !

Also, the white-top might have been washed with laundry detergent, which will cause it to glow.
      Pics will help.

        Hi,

        Photos will come tomorrow.
Another forum member will help me with that.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a good visor.

        Thanks

                    Thanks for all the help.
Very glad that it turned out to be a good one.

Was a bit concerned when it glowed under blue light but must have been washed with something after the war.

Yes, a lot of collectors did that back in the 50s-80s to get rid of dirt, stains, etc, w/o realizing that it would cause the white-top to glow under UV.

I really like the white ones with the brushed cotton fabric like that, much scarcer and more attractive IMO than the waffle-pattern tops. Nice hat.

Yes, there was no concern at the time whether it glowed or not . It was an original piece that just needed cleaning and probably better off for long term preservation that some of them were.

Of course collectors nowadays are so skittish about everything. So even if a piece is a one-looker original they won’t often touch it if it has been cleaned. I know of a summer general’s tunic like this.

So interesting sometimes what is perceived as right and wrong.

                            Excellent cap, nice rakish shape.

Simply keep it away from those damn UV lights and enjoy it.

I will keep away from the UV lights in the future for sure.

I really enjoy having the cap in my collection. It has the been there look that I prefer

                              Regards Kridtoffer
