Apologies if I am asking really dumb questions, but I am trying to learn about how to authenticate peaked caps (and red flags to beware of).
I wanted to get some opinions about the application of bullion wreaths to peaked caps. Is it okay for the stitches to go through the cap band and the lining material, or is that a sign that the wreath was applied at a later date, possibly post-war?
The picture is of an Erel cap.
Another question I wanted to ask is whether caps ever left the factory with bullion insignia, or if bullion insignia was always a tailored addition, whether as a replacement for metal insignia, or an option when a cap was being tailor made. That makes sense, but I wanted to get confirmation of that.
Any information will be gratefully received.
