Stumbled upon this interesting photo today.

Nice combination on a WH GJ M43 cap pimped up as WSS GJ .
The Edelweiss could also be on dark green for Austrian GJ ?
A 1944 WH Gebirgsjäger transferred to the WSS ?

His tunic even looks possibly modified ...remnants of breast eagle and Heer collar tabs

Really love these anomalies Agree more photos of this type should be posted here. How many of you would purchase this item if offered on a dealers site or at a show?

Or how some U-Boot Kapitains pinned gold breast eagles on their white top visors when they lost the embroidered examples. Kustenartillerie did the same from time to time on their M43s.

This is a peculiar M43 cap with the button holes a long way from the end of the flap.
I assumed at first that he'd simply altered the cap to make it a bit smaller but I don't see any trace of other holes.

Was just watching The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel the other night and while the photo is grainy, he appears to be wearing a tropical/DAK cap on the Ost Front in Russia with his wool tunic. There are no flaps or buttons on the front of the cap and the material seems to be the cotton twill of a tropical cap.

It appears to be an SS (single button) cap with a cockade substituted for the skull.

Check out how the eagle was pushed on with such force that the wings bent outward (and I can guarantee the prongs go thru the lining):
