    M43 hat

He asked a simple question got an informed answer from well known collectors. was the cap original yes was the answer, was the insignia original yes. But you Skara Brae had to stick your boot in with room full of crap, its people like you who contribute Fu..k all, to posts like this and stir thinks up. we all know what factory sewn m43 caps look like duh.... caps that never saw a head and sat on a shelf for the whole war. did it ever enter your head that thousands of German prisoners, went into the united kingdom after the war. they were told to remove the offensive insignia, unlike the USA. So if a German wanted to put his insignia back on his cap post war and could not sew to save his life, that's what he could end up doing.

Have you ever, in your entire life, actually met a German who was in a POW camp?

Now the funny thing in Ireland, they could wear their uniforms outside the camp with all insignia on with no problems. The gent from the SS was in a camp in the uk in 44, a race course I think converted, to a camp. he told me a British solider told him to remove the skull from his side hat, not the eagle, ? which was partly hidden on his M40. He kept the skull, binned the hat, out break of lice. they were then supplied with dyed allied over coats, and battle blouse with white arrow on the back. He said he was treated very badly. he passed away in 2009 he would not sell his cloth totenkopf, Maybe some collector has sewn it back on some cap....who has a room full of crap...........
