What is interesting about a lot of these high-end LW fakes of that era (80's/90s) is that they have a "ghost" of the visor trim (not to mention the smooth underside):

When I first saw the pics I felt this was an 80s era fake. To be honest only a few things would have tipped most of even the experts back then, like the old trim holes in the visor and perhaps for some the weave orientation of the front panels.
Much easier to spot now that we have all seen great web photos of thousands of peak caps both good and bad and dissected. No one had this kind of hand holding in the 1990s much less before.

I agree, it would have fooled me as well back in the 80s.
(Being a starving student had its benefits--I could not afford General-rank visors back then, which I know I would have been burned on many times over!)
