I really like this cap, not that that matters because i would never spend that kind of cash on any piece.
That said it is feasible for this cap to have belonged to a doctor, in theory. This is a pre-war cap in my opinion. I disagree with dealers description as far as time frame of manufacture.
Any member of the pre-war SS could have acquired this cap. Could have been part time Allgemeine SS or reservist. Also members of the SS were expected to come up through the ranks (ofcourse there are the exceptions we are are familiar with) from EM to Officers. Even Gille started his SS career as an SS EM.
In regards to doctors, i dont know the name off the top of my head but i believe one of my reference books has the bio of SS member who was a doctor. His SS EM photo acompanies the bio if i am correct.
In any case, the name is there for anyone to research as opposed to just speculating.

Yes, it can. Here Dr. may also refer to anyone who holds a Doctoral level degree without any relation to medecine. The stamp in this cap though refers to a Dr of Medicine. An Ophthalmologist (eye doctor) in this case.

Rereading the description on the site i see the English translation is a bit off in regards the German description.

That's very true, Manfred Renz for example held a Doctorate but not in medicine. I'm not sure of his rank when he qualified however.

To become a qualified medical doctor would require 3 or 4 years study plus another similar period of time to become an ophthalmologist. I can't imagine a specialist like that holding a rank lower than Officer. Therefore this stamp is a puzzle to me.

But as David has already said, the name is there to be researched.

As for the price, yes it's high but consider this. A regular grey SS NCO visor in similar condition would be valued at let's say 5K euro. This configuration of cap with the fabric covered visor is at least 50 times rarer, maybe more. Anyway, price is relative, a lot of money for you and I, not so much to a very wealthy collector.

Aside from the cap, just FYI for historical perspective. In post #7 i mention a bio off the top of my head. Couldnt remember specifics at that moment. My reference refers to Dr. Karl Gebhardt.Gruppenfuhrer und Generalleutnant der Waffen SS. A medical doctor. In Yergers book on German Cross in Silver holders, a photo is included of him wearing his EM/NCO visor while serving as an SS Scharfuhrer.
