Exactly, Udet was a dandy and undoubtedly had lots of uni’s. This cap isnt one of the ones in the pix shown.... in my opinion.

It's possible that behind the scenes, some solid provenience which links this cap with Udet was discovered which drove the price up. I know that if it were me, I wouldn't divulge anything that I had discovered until after the auction ended.

Or more likely just a bidding war between a few bidders with deep pockets.

Either scenario is equally likely IMO.

There was a helmet in this auction (tentatively) attributed to an RKT due to the name written in the liner. I asked Klaus in advance of the auction if there was any additional provenance above and beyond the name in the liner and he said unfortunately not... so I didn't bid.
