Both Stechbarth tags appear good but with subtle embroidery differences.
Both seem to be inscribed by the same tailor.

Hi Chris and Ben,
The one that Ben thinks might be it, seems not to have a stitched edge to the visor,? BUT looking on Pin interest shows several pictures in the several different locations of Udet wearing what looks to be the same visor of ben posted. with a stitched visor edge.
If it is the same cap it may have been stored badly, the eagle position seems correct to period photos in relation to the centre seam and distance from the top of cap. Personally I think Udet was a person of style, a snappy dresser.
Just me thoughts

Eagle placement...
The eagle placement looks unlike anything he's seen wearing in any of the photos... unless this is another of his caps not photographed. The leading edge of the peak looks to be entirely different too.Comment

These senior guys often had a lot of uniforms and headgear. Finding exact matches to photos in wear is extremely scarce.

It's possible that behind the scenes, some solid provenience which links this cap with Udet was discovered which drove the price up. I know that if it were me, I wouldn't divulge anything that I had discovered until after the auction ended.
Or more likely just a bidding war between a few bidders with deep pockets.Comment
