I have seen more than a few SS-Gebirgsjäger caps lately... or is it me?

Not stating the cap is not authentic btw, but are the insignia applied before 45?

What would give me pause is the black trap and the fact that this isn't a Bergmuetze, but a standard M43. This raises doubts as to the originality of the edelweiss's application
