      Thanks guys for all of the input thus far. When I have time I will take lots more and better pics. Hopefully that will help to solve some of the questions that have arisen re my cursory shots. Thanks, Mark.

          I'm not an expert at all. But at least it looks very convincing and made with great quality.

            Here you go Carlo, the black part is the "pasteboard". It's an English term used in the hat manufacturing industry but I must try and find the correct German word for it sometime!

            This one is flexible, you can tell by the texture and it's a bit unusual for a regular schirmmuetze as you know of course.
