My apologies as I thought for the years that I had it that I was real. I certainly value Stonemint's knowledge. Would you be able to tell me more about the cap such as the period it was produced and if the HJ cloth diamond is real or fake? Any help appreciated.

Would have to agree it's a civilian cap. The cloth diamond appears to be original, but they are common and cheap to purchase.

I'm not 'invested' in the cap, just curious.
Yes, HJ diamonds are common but not easy to age to match the hat and apply it.
Not a rare hat in any event, especially in this condition, but any chance it's non-regulation but period worn? As Richard asked, can anyone comment on the age of the hat itself?

A cap like this with visor reinforcement was made only postwar , for example ...

Somewhere on a forum member "Kurt Meyer", Micahael, posted a period photo of an H.J. member wearing a cap with the leather band around the bill. It's the only photo I've ever seen with this type of cap in wear. It's no doubt a civilian cap and ebay DE is full of these caps sold as "HJ". I would PM him and ask if he still has the photo stored or if he recalls which forum he posted it on. Personally I would never accept one of these as period having seen only one single photo of one in wear and not being close to RZM specification.

Thanks for all the information guys. I'm now wondering if here is anything salvageable with this cap or if I need to just toss it in the trash?

                      Hj

The photo in that thread speaks a thousand words , some re-enforced visors were around during the period-notably that cap has a buckle some what similar to the RZM types .

Some extra pictures. I can't figure out why some of my pictures are crystal clear and others are a bit blurred/fuzzy. I think I need to get a tripod rather than doing hand held photography.

                              cap

Is that AHS were seeing stamped in the cap.
