    A question about Panzer caps

    Hi Gents,

I have a question about Panzer caps, did those "dyed black" Pz M43 caps or Overseas caps really exist in the war? If so, could we call them "Original Panzer caps"? Thanks!

    Best regards,Yun

In 1940 the Germans successfully cold dyed field grey side-caps to help meet the shortage of black Panzer side-caps. plus some Panzerwaffe who were already using a field grey side-cap at the start of 1940, simply had the cap dyed black in a limited number of cases.

However, original examples of such caps are very rare and hard to find. Many post-war dyed caps are distorted in shape by the use of hot dye.

I have never seen a dyed black Panzer M43 that I thought was original. If you dye am M43 the bill stiffener often disintegrates to a certain extent, especially if hot dye is used,

Thank you Chris! Well, that is to say, most of those "dyed black" Pz sidecaps are not genuine, and there's no evidence that "dyed black" Pz M43 caps did exist in the war, right?

Certainly a can of worms as to what was dyed before May 1945 and what was dyed after. Simply do a search here on WAF of "dyed" and you will find a range of examples across the spectrum,
