              Trap

              Hi,

The trapezoid is good. Somewhere there is a period group photo, where all the members have black panzer traps sewn to field grey caps - like this cap. Odd, but it was done on occasion.

                    IMHO, an interesting attempt.

I just don't know. I've seen a number of similar caps (mostly EM) in Italian gaberdine over the past decade and most of them look good to me. My problem is where have they all been hiding. I hardly ever encountered them in the 70s and early 80s. But the materials all look good, from the base cloth to the leather sweat band. I can't address the insignia. So if this is a fake I would certainly be fooled. Glad I'm not looking for one. Jim

Certain details are troubling. As Mr. Singer, I have doubts even though it is near perfect.

Yes, in the eighties, a dealer in "Vernaison, marché aux puces" de Saint-Ouen near Paris had many too, same provinace and markings.

I only remember seeing one in Germany in the early 90s. It had white wool piping and was without insignia. No one knew what it was until George Petersen bought it and told us about it. Another friend picked up an enlisted Heer cap in the same material. I must have missed out on the large finds. Jim
