    SS Officers "Camo" visor

I picked this one up recently from an auction.
(Big thanks to my mate Chris for helping me out yet again! )

It's a typical SS Kleiderkasse example in decent condition but with repairs to the sweatband.

I'll get to the interesting "camo" part in a minute.

First some photos taken outside and it's bloody cold today!

      Re-sewn sweatband.

I've never seen one repaired like this before, it's been done with a machine and they added a patch at the rear.

        So here's the puzzle..

As I was checking out the interior, I noticed that the cap spring in the front had also been repaired but by using a piece of camo fabric which is interesting.

Plus the money shot for all you skull and eagle lovers!

                Ben,
What's the black stitching along the piping at the top?

                  Sloppy original stitching.

It's in the piping seam where it should be for the most part but then wonders outside here. Fairly typical for these hats.

Looks to be an Overhoff cap eagle

                      It's a beauty, congratulations mate.

a over coat with liner removed shows camo backing material.

                            Thanks guys and my pleasure.

In regards to exposed stitching we often see on visors, sometimes it was due to sloppy workmanship but another reason occurred to me recently. When they were factory fresh, the stitching and seams would have been very tight. After several decades however, fabrics and sewing thread can stretch quite bit so what once was hidden in the seams is now exposed.
