Yes and Auckland has cheaper petrol than most other places in New Zealand. In some cases by quite a margin.

Sadly, just more proof of what NZ calls good, Aussie calls bad.

But there are still people with brought back DAK/ German stuff in their houses/ sheds/ garages they will sell, who can be perplexed as to why anyone would want to pay good money for it

I had no problem with the appearance of the soutache, my concern was the missing stitching around the entire(?) circumference of the cap. If perspiration and grime were the cause I would expect it to be mainly in the front. I have tried to imagine a circumstance where someone, in the last 70 years, would have intentionally opened up this seam. The overzealous removal of an added leather (or other material) sweatband is one possibility, I suppose.

Agree - taking proper look at the sewing, I no longer think washing was the contributing factor, although I have owned a very sweaty, blood soaked m40 which was washed at some point (post battle pick-up, possibly to remove the dried blood) and the sweatband detached almost completely from the liner with no problems to the insignia.
Mike(39) - you could be right....
And yes, we are being ripped off by the fuel companies. Golly - who knew???
