The early type Heer metal cap eagle would be my choice.

34pontifical - first of all congrats to obtaining a super desirable early textbook Knautschmütze made by the most desirable maker in a very desirable branch color

You want to go with an ordinary first pattern WH metal cap eagle... Kurt

Metal eagles were sometimes changed out for the fine flatwire eagles making them a bit easier to fold, just a thought. I own the art’y version of your ErEl.

The early Erel art’y crusher I purchased from WAF member Ustasha can be seen in the pinned crusher thread post #398.... its on the top row in the middle. The early ones do have an inimitable old world charm. The cav cap that starts this thread needs a bit of steam and shaping, its very nice.

                      Crusher

This one has a thin, early style eagle, attached by thread through small holes in the wings. Probably is what your had had.

                        interior

Here's a shot of the interior. My friend got this about 15 years ago at SOS. I think for $100 and on Saturday afternoon, when most people assume everything interesting is gone. It's not for sale as he has a summer weight uniform that matched it well but wanted me to post it for him.

                          Hi Robert,

I think you're right for the eagle attached by thread through small holes in the wings.

                          Thanking your friend
