    early WH visor?

    never saw one with air vents on the side, would this be an early model?

        Perfectly nice hat but not that early in my opinion. Check for sweatband markings, I’d say about 1937-8.

            Schlange's right, these air vents are commonly found on Schutzpolizei/Gendarmerie visor hats.
            Be air vents original to the cap or not, the shape of the headgear is typical of pre-war production.

                An inside shot would show if they were, in fact, properly installed. They should be crimped, not sewn, in place. If the cap crown was damaged that could account for the stitches visable. I think screen vents can be found on caps of other branches. Were this Heer em truly early it would have a different eagle and wreath.

                  An interesting "personalized" cap with the addition of air vents, perhaps because the original owner suffered from a sweaty head!

                  Reminds me of this M43 I used to own.
