In my opinion, scary fake... Piping, tag, Etc... Looks good, but first glance at the first pic, something just didn't feel right...

What's your thoughts? You're the "Hat" master!

Duff, I wish I was that good, but I was caught napping on this one!

Unless I can't see in the pic, the word Mussen should have the two dot's above the "U" should it not. I agree the piping seems too fuzzy for an original. Love to own one as a filler though if it is indeed a high end fake.

Yes, you gents are correct--it is one of the latest fakes, apparently out of Germany.
(the piping is too fuzzy, among other things).

I have to give credit where credit is due--the legendary d'alquen (Derek) outed this fake with one quick glance.

That piping could quickly be sorted with a pair is small sharp scissors.

While I don't specialize in SS headgear, I've owned a number of black visors in the past. The first thing I noticed was, as mentioned before, the hairy piping. I don't think trimming it would help--this kind of wool would become wispy again. Also, the tricot has slightly different weave characteristics than other caps in my files. There are some other differences to known original caps but I have to say that some of the fabrics used inside are dangerously similar if not identical to those found in original caps IMO.

                        cap

So are they being sold as real? And by whom? Does anyone know?

those "quality" fakes out of Germany or Austria are out since over a decade. When you study those there is more wrong, propably not visible from photos.

The Deschler skull looks ok but I'm not keen on the eagle ... may just be the angle but the eye/beak looks strange.

RZM stamp on visor looks strange. Possible for a closeup?
