Some notes about the history:
1929: founding of the company as an engineer's office for technical requirements by the then 24-year-old Dipl.-Ing. And Kaufmann Walter Schmitt.
1930: Establishment of sales. The company Schmitt starts with the distribution of lubrificating oils and technical articles.
1934-1937: Expansion of the delivery program. The product range is expanded. The company Schmitt develops air protection devices for fire protection and rescue protection. In 1937, the company moved to the Pfarrstrasse site in Neuwied.
1945: Large insert of SCHMITT pumps. As a result of the effects of war rebuilding their home. Own construction of wear-resistant syringes and accessories. Large use of these SCHMITT pumps for the lifting of submerged Rhine ships.
1948: Helmut Schmitt enters the company.
1948-49: Through the participation in the "Feuerwehrwoche" in Koblenz, the company Schmitt is well-known. In order to meet the training requirements of the weirs, the company arranges a training room and conducts machinist courses.
1958: The company starts with the distribution and maintenance of fire protection devices and equipment.
1964-1968: Walter Schmitt jun. did a further expansion of office and storage spaces. Sale of the 100th fire engine.
1970: The company founder Walter Schmitt sen. receives the German fire brigade honorary cross as well as the Federal Service Cross for his merits for fire protection; He retires from the company as a result of his age.
1973: Further enlargement and conversion of the company into the installation of workshops for respiratory protection and large vehicles as well as testing and filling stations.
1989: Helmut Schmitt retires from the company as a result of his age.
2004: Christina and Daniel Schmitt take over the management. Walter Schmitt jun. retires from the company.
2010: Relocation of the company in Rheinstraße 182 in Neuwied.
Currently the company employs more than 45 people and generates sales of more than € 14 million.
