This is the history: Nicolaus Hinrich Dubbers created in 1816 the HH-Altona hat factory. In 1867 the company N. H. Dubbers was registered in Altona as a trading company with the partners Johann and Eduard Dubbers and Theodor Ferdinand Wegener. His sons, Robert and Maximilian (hence R & M Wegener), later entered the management of the company. In 1884 Robert and Maximilian Wegener, together with their cousin Nicolaus Hugo Dubbers, a grandson of the company founder, were registered as partners. Robert Wegener decided to relocate the company to Lauterbach. The transfer of the company took place on March 1, 1884. In May 1885 the factory was then put into operation with 50 workers. The company also built 8 houses for its employees in Lauterbach. In April 1888, after Nicolaus Dubbers had left the company, it was restructured and was called "Haarhutfabrik R. & M. Wegener". in 1904, Robert Wegener withdrew from the business. His sons, Kurt Theodor and Edgar took over the management in 1914. In the years between the two world wars, the two brothers built more houses for the workers' families, as their number had risen to more than 250. Edgar Wegener fell in WW2, so that the survivor brother Kurt took over the management. He died on November 13, 1960. Klaus Theodor Wegener and Hans Wegener took over the management of the company after 1945 and jointly ran the company until September 4, 1966, when Klaus fell victim to an accident. Currently his oldest son, Hans Theodor Wegener, runs the company.
