Thanks for your response. I've being
Collecting Militaria for over 40 years and I know
There is a lot of fakes out there but I have
Had these caps for a very long time and they
We're brought back off a Royal Navy veteran
Who served on hms Fishguard in ww2
I appreciate your opinions but I still believe these
Are authentic I also know a curator at the royal
Armouries in Leeds who has seen all my collection
And these caps and he has always agreed
The same I alsothink that pictures are not the best
Way to judge Militaria authenticity sometimes
But it's the only way on forums
    Regards Paul

Paul the trouble with the guys in the museums is they can tell you all about a Pike a Brown Bess and a pair of Napoleonic marching boots but they no nothing about German stuff from WW2 , they don't keep up to date with the mass fraud and reproduction buisness going on , they don't look at Wehrmacht awards every day , they don't check out "German" on ebay everyday they don't go to the big shows , all they see is a dusty cap with a good story . Same goes with antique dealers and anyone who hasnt collected this crap for 50 years . Rob
God please take justin bieber and gave us dio back

There are several threads here on WAF where museum pieces are discussed and outed as obvious fakes.
Have a look at the construction of your Donald Duck cap and compare it with shown genuine examples. The signs are obvious. In addition it would give me a pause to see a summer white DD cap with U-Boat emblems....very suspicious for a cap which is by story "captured" from an U-Boat.

I checked today the Hoegel reference book about the Witch..not listed as well the flat turtle is not shown there on any boat having a turtle as emblem (they all look different)

As said, please post detailed pics from under the hood and we should see clear.

I had a disagreement once with a guy who had a military museum-authenticated Flying Tigers leather flight jacket. I even wrote to the museum (in Florida) and asked them why they would authenticate such a jacket as WW2-era when the tag stating Polyester liner and fill was still attached inside. Neither backed down.

To each is own - collect what you want to collect, and believe what you want to believe, I guess.

            Thanks for your reply
I also did some research a long time ago and couldn't find any emblem with a witch on a broomstick hence trying the forum . But I did some research on hms Fishguard
The ship that the navy veteran served on and I found that the did capture a uboat 852 commanded by Heinz wilhelm eck ? This interested me because the initials in the sweatband of the visor cap have clearly h w e on metal tabs on the side as shown in the picture .the uboat is said to have used a white turtle as there emblem
Also shown on the badge on the side of the cap ??
            Regards Paul

I just did a quick search for U-852. It was run aground off the coast of Samolia after engaging Royal Navy forces. Says the surviving crew includeding Cpt Eck were captured by the Samoliland Camel Corps. The only Uboat Captain to be tried at Nuremberg. Interesting.

Yes, Eck's U 852 had a turtle as shown here:
                http://www.u-boote.fr/images/u-852.gif

And yes, HMS Fishguard was in the region.

March 6th Arrived at Kilindini and detached from AKD16.
13th Sailed from Kilindini as escort for Convoy DKA14 to Aden.

U-852 stranded and the crew was captured on shore. Would be interested to know what role the Fishguard had played in the capture (if any).
The records I have do not show this vessel having been a part of either the hunter-killer group as well as of the capturing force but this may be not correct.

BUT ! Many times such items comes with a great story...same as the flag shown in your pic....great u-boat, great story, big money....

                Post better and detailed pictures.

                Regards
                Christian

Exactly ... nice shots of the interiors will help more than telling a nice story ?

Sorry mate, both hats are fakes and pretty bad ones actually..
The U boat story may be a true story, but neither of these hats has ever been anywhere near it.
                                Cheers,
                                Martin
