Hi guys, this is well out of my area, I believe the insignia is fine, but what about the cap???
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Jamie, I have been told privately it is a Frankenstein.

Yes it is Popskipa's website, I have just been PMd by him, chastising me for posting photos without his permission on the forum.
A bit strange I thought from a fellow Forum member......

after taking a quick look, i would advise to be very careful if someone intends to buy any headgear there.

This thread was pointed out to me by a collector friend. The cap belongs to me and is advertised for sale on the website I share with a fellow collector: www.militarychest.com

Initially I was unhappy about the thread as I feel permission should have been sought before posting images from the website, a clear infringement of copyright and good manners.

However I have owned this cap for many years and in my opinion, and opinion shared by others who have examined it, feel it is a nice original example.

The Military Chest website is a vehicle for two ageing collectors to sell their collections. We are not dealers buying to resell at a profit, quite the opposite, we are collectors who are fed up with the excessive fees charged by auctioneers, dealers commission, and restrictions of eBay. The website is a relatively cheap and easy method for us to dispose of our collections direct to fellow collectors.

                            Enjoy the hobby, Keith

Ok, I'll say what many may be thinking and its not meant to impede on somebody's sale. To me, it looks like an "original" Coastal Artillery cap with "original" SS insignia re-applied after being removed from another cap. A cap made from various parts is often referred to as a "Frankenstein". I base this on the shabby looking edges on both eagle and skull, and the lack of false piping. Not to mention the inner stamp. I personally like to see just a size stamp on an SS cap. When skull and eagle was added is anybody's guess. Was this cap issued to somebody in the SS? I don't think so. This is my opinion based on the photos I see.
