How can you tell it's artillery?

If I were to guess at a possible soutache branch that was removed, it would also be red for Artillery.
There are two red looking threads still visible…one just above the rosette and one to the left (as you are facing the cap) where it ties into the slit at the bottom edge of the cap.

If I were asked and based on the pictures supplied….Artillery would be my guess.

By seeing very small specks of the remaining "red?" soutache at top and viewers left;-)

The M42 is more desirable,early overseas hats with removed soutache braid>not so much.IMO
