    Heer Overseas cap

    Hi,
I'm thinking of buying an Army Other Ranks Overseas/Side Cap M34. I chap has sent me photographs of one that is for sale and I was hoping that one of you very knowledgeable Gentlemen could review it for me?
I think I can see where the soutache has been removed. I hope it's a good one!

            Hi Gentlemen,
Thank you for your thoughts and observations. I have only just started looking at head dress, so it's all new to me. I've been reading lots of threads on the forum about this type of headdress. I thought that the insignia on this type of cap was often hand applied, so can I ask how you can all tell that it has been re applied? I though it might be a good sign that it looked like the right side of the eagle looked a bit worn.
I am keen to learn. Many thanks,
            Ypren

If you have the opportunity to look at good original sewn insignia on a few caps you will see that the insignia do not stick out like they were just applied and the original threads used are normally a medium to dark color that is not over noticeably like the thread used to sew on the cockade. The fuzzy areas along the edge of the eagle look like a trimmed or closely trimmed eagle has been used and re-applied. Experience will allow you to spot original sewing if you have a good eye for details.

                Hi,
Thanks for your advice. I now see what you mean about the thread colour. I will keep reading this forum and try and get an eye for originals.
