I can only imagine that several coincidences have achieved such a high price.
        1. The buyer has a lot of money, so that 11 K is a joke for him.
        2. The buyer has absolut no knowledge about visor cap and thery characteristics, date of production etc.
        3. No reserach before biding.
        Poor buyer!

Not to mention the cap was from my quick spin...made no where's near any town he may have passed thru or been assigned in the time frame...name tag cut from a calling card perhaps...BILLBERT

It's always something of Rommel's isn't it ? That seems to be the only name that the clueless "collector" seems to know.
Not v.Manstein, v.Rundstedt, v.Mantueffel, Balck, Guderian, etc., but Rommel they know.
This does not speak well of the vetting process of the auction house either.

Is this dealer known for selling fake or wrongly items like this?

                    It is not a dealer.

It is the worlds largest militaria auctionhouse.

As with any seller know your items before you pull the trigger. I've seen great items there and some absolutely bad items.

In time . . . who amonst all of us will be able to say what is true?

This situation brings the thought to mind . . . some day - when we are all in our "Golden Years" - I hope we don't come to hear some kind of story that changes consensus . . . and we all have woken to discover, that this was REALLY one of Herr Rommel's caps.

What then, will we all have to say!

A case of, "fools and their money are soon parted"

I say fools because there were also under bidders who may not realise how lucky they were to get off the hook,
