    SS side cap??

    Hey guys,
I've had this side cap in my collection for a while. Initially got it as a Coastal Artillery cap but when removing the (fake) coastal insignia noticed the ghosts of what might have been SS insignia, certainly not the standard diamond shape of a coastal cockade.
As SS is not my field your opinions would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Martin

There's a lot of bogus K. H. Flauder Minden (Westf.) stamped caps out there but IMO, this isn't one of them. The cap looks authentic to me and certainly looks to have had SS insignia applied even though the cut of the cap is more CA than SS.

I'm sorry to tell you but it is a fake cap. Here is another fake stamp from a cap like this but with different lining - but identical stamp.

Thanks Ben, for comparison of its shape, I've put it in between 2 of my CA caps.

MM1985: are you saying ALL K.H. Flauder marked caps are fake?
If not, is there anything besides the stamp which makes you think this one is a fake?

Not the classic SS cut, wait for a good one

No there are good ones but not yours - the stamp in your cap is similar to the one found in many fake caps by this widely faked maker. K.H. Flauder made wartime caps too but they are different.

I just went and looked at some original K.H. Flauder stamps and it seems I was wrong.
                  The originals do look different.

Here's the nail in the coffin I'm afraid, same colour rayon lining.

Thanks guys, your help is much appreciated. Seems like all the fakes are 1941 dated for some reason.

                        Cheers,
