I would expect a general's cap to be made of high quality wool or wool blend ribbed twill, not this enlisted grade wool blend.
Thus, I have serious doubts.
Many Generals, Manteuffel for example, wore upgraded enlisted uniforms, so that in itself can not be a measure of originality.
I did not say it's a repro!
It's put together from original parts, but who knows when.
However the owner must be happy with it.
I would not have that sidecap in my collection.

I dont agree.....its like saying every General had a Mercedes staff car...but in reality was probably an old kubelwagen.
Manteuffel and others often wore o/r uniform items.
I've already seen EM upgraded pieces of uniform for General ?
I know of a nicely worn upgraded EM M40 jacket coming directly from the family ? with the AA Schirmmütze having a metal KM small sailor's cap
eagle on it ? Not even a RW early small one !
Proofs of wear with the family pictures album, of course ...

I didn't say that you said it was a repro. But I do stand behind my entire statement. I agree that "who knows when" is the question here. And that is why I would have to see much better photos. I believe the key may be in the attachment of the partial sweatband, as that was certainly added to the cap when it was up-graded to General rang.
