Absolutely agree with the gents above, a reproduction made to deceive.

Thank you all for the input on the topic. I was afraid my suspicion was founded...

What I do not understand is that this cap has been seen by manny "expert" collectors and never questioned ... the item has been in a collection for decades with no questioning, even photographed to be used in books on the topic .... and only when thinking of selling, suddenly truth comes to light ...

I will have some more "questionable" items for the forum, hope you guy's will be good sport and give a impartial opinion.

                            Hi Marc

Thats interesting that some think this cap is a good one ? Its a decent attempt but not that close to original CW tropical caps.

                            & Glenn & everyone

This is one of the very few times have seen the actual original grommets from another cap (probably a beehive sidecap) re-applied to this cap with indifferent success as Glenn mentions. Are there many other examples of this deception with original grommets re-applied to a fake cap ? European or tropical ?

                            thanks
                            Tim

Yes, the cap has been pictured in a few books as a good period one !! And seen by somme "experts" member of the forum in not "live" at least on picture ...

This LW one is obviously a fake, not artificially aged, copper grommets ...
