Thoughts on early infantry overseas cap with light grey insignia

    Hello everyone,

I just took a gamble on a German auction site on what looked like an early style overseas cap. It has light grey insignia and what I think is the original white infantry soutache. The eagle and cockade are hand sewn but really tight into the material, looking original to me.

The cap is in excellent condition, with only light signs of wear in the lining, a really clear makers stamp and only one tiny moth hole at the back. It is also a very large size 61. I don't have any early caps like this to compare, so would appreciate your experienced thoughts.

    Thanks, Matthew

Your cap is a superb example of the early style, nothing to worry about at all.

The off white eagle on gray is the very first issue cap insignia in Bevo.
Next was white on dark green, followed by gray on dark green,
                    then gray on field gray.
As others have said, your cap is a beauty!

Thank you all for the positive opinions. The condition seems almost too good to be true for such an early item, so I'm very glad to hear everything looks to be in order. Looks like it was worth bidding for in the end.
