            I thought the eagle had been repleced, maybe moved but didn't know why. An edelweiss...hadn't thought of that!! Thanks for the quick replies.

              I think you could repair the cap spring pretty easily to give it a nicer form.

                That was going to be my next question Don, how do I give it a nicer form? Are there threads here on WAF? I looked several years ago to help with a cap I once had but never found one.

                  They do show up from time to time on eBay. You can actually make one yourself if you don't mind having non-period parts in your cap.

                    How would I got about making one? I don't mind non period parts for display reasons, but I don't want to do anything that will make a permanent change, unless it was a matter of simple reshaping.

                        It'll depend on if there is any part of the original spring left - if there is, I have used a semi-rigid plastic rectangle warapped in a soft cloth that I wired to the remaineder of the spring - that way, you can always remove it. If the spring is comletely gone, I'd opt for a more permanent spring that is sewn to the base of the original spring.
