Good field worn example with originally sewn insignia - good one, Jerry.

        regards, Robert

A good one from Carl Halfar... most likely soutache removed. Interesting later style rosette usually seen on mid period caps.

Nothing wrong with this one in any way shape or form. Agree - appears removed soutache. Lovely un-cleaned example which will hopefully stay that way!
(If it's an 'M' anything it's an 'M40', by the way).

Agree nice worn M40 with original insignia. No sweatband implies there was a soutache at one point & the photos confirm this....

Ok I think I have that down now.

There is no "evidence" of a soutache, but it does kind of "feel" like one may have been there if that makes any sense. I can sort of see the angle line where on may have been, but no leftover "tufts" of waffenfarbe in the seams like on others I have had.

The sewing trail of the soutache may have just disappeared with wash and wear, also, some soutache removal was very thorough leaving no tell tale thread. I can't remember if Halfars application went into cap body or simply wrapped around lower cap edge by the visor.....check those areas carefully.

                    Jerry,

Carl Halfar soutache application was through two slits just above the line of stitching for the cap body/peak. I'm certain that this cap once had a soutache as well with just a faint trace of shadow visible where the soutache would have been. This is a very nice cap and I would have been tempted if not for other commitments right now.

                      DAK M40 cap

A lovely original cap all round. I've been searching for a size 59 DAK m40 for years....if it's back up for sale, please let me know!

Very nice cap Jerry. Honest field worn example and also very fairly priced which was nice to see. I was tempted myself.

As my other DAK hat generated so much interest, I thought I would offer up another one that I had in my collection. This one is unmarked, more olive green in color, but has the oil cloth sweatband, and has been made a bit smaller by sewing the back a bit tighter by the solider that wore it.

The eagle on this one is handsewn, does that indicate that it was replaced?

                              Thanks-
